Dr Monica L King

Licensed PSYPACT psychologist specializing in families affected by ADHD, OCD and Autism nationwide

You don't have to do this alone.

Raising a neurodivergent child is not just parenting; it’s advocacy, education, scheduling, translating, defending, and holding it together when you’re exhausted.

If you are the parent of a child with Giftedness, ADHD, Autism, Learning Disorders, or other
neurodivergent traits and you feel overwhelmed, burned out, guilty, frustrated, or quietly resentful at times, you are not broken.

You are human. And you deserve support too.

This practice exists to support both your child and you. This isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about giving you space to breathe, process, and strengthen so you can live, and parent, from a steadier place. But it’s also about giving your child a space to have their emotional needs met too.

Dedicated Support and Therapy for Parents and Children

Your child may already have teachers, specialists, and treatment plans.
But who is supporting you?
Many parents of neurodivergent children are asked to function like full-time co-therapists, implementing strategies, managing behaviors, attending meetings, and absorbing constant feedback, often without validation or relief. And your child, who is often receiving intensive supports for their development, may not have a moment to be supportive without pressure to hit milestones or goals.
My work integrates child, teen, and adult interventions while recognizing something essential: when
parents are supported, children do better.
I provide therapy for children, teens, and adults, while offering parents a space to be seen as whole people- not just caregivers carrying out someone else’s plan. This is a confidential, non-judgmental space where you don’t have to explain yourself, minimize your feelings, or pretend you’re fine.
This is where you can exhale.

How I Help

I work primarily with parents who:
  • Feel chronically overwhelmed, depleted, or emotionally worn down
  • Carry guilt, shame, anger, or grief they don’t feel allowed to express
  • Are navigating diagnoses and don’t fully understand what they mean
  • Feel judged by schools, providers, or family members
  • Are doing “everything right” and still feel like they’re failing

Depending on your family’s needs, our work may include:
  • Reducing burnout and emotional overload
  • Understanding diagnoses without clinical jargon
  • Managing anxiety, frustration, and resentment with honesty and compassion
  • Strengthening boundaries with schools, providers, and family
  • Helping you reconnect with who you are beyond caregiving

When children are supported and parents are supported, the entire family system benefits.

My Therapeutic Approach

I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which looks at how thoughts, emotions,
and behaviors interact—especially under chronic stress.

Children, teens, and parents often know what isn’t working, but feel stuck on how to change
without everything falling apart. CBT allows us to:
  • Identify unhelpful thought patterns
  • Create practical, realistic coping tools
  • Build emotional regulation skills you can actually use in real life
  • Shift from constant reactivity to more grounded decision-making

This is not about perfection. It’s about progress.

Meet Dr King

I am a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults.

I have a special heart for the parents who support children with neurodivergent traits.

Early in my career, I learned something critical: you cannot truly support a child without supporting their parent.
I’ve worked in schools, clinics, and residential settings, and I’ve seen how often parents are overlooked while carrying the heaviest load. Over time, my work evolved to focus intentionally on the mental and emotional well-being of parents in neurodivergent families.

When you come into my practice, I don’t see “just a mom” or “just a dad.” I see you as a whole person.

What Makes This Practice Different

  • This is not ABA parent training
  • This is not about being told what you should be doing
  • This is not a place where your feelings are minimized
This is therapy designed to support the humanity of both parents and children.

You can say the things you don’t say out loud. You can feel what you feel without fear of
judgment. You can show up tired, frustrated, unsure—and still be met with respect.
